Where is Makkah Located?

Makkah exactly sits in the west of Sausi Arabia, surrounded by rocky hills, in the Hejaz Mountains, about 70 Kms inland from Jeddah on the Red Sea Coast.

Top Places to Visit in Makkah

  1. Jabal Al-Nour and Hira Cave

This is the place where the first revelation was received by Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him). The hike of this cave is steep, so make sure that you leave early to visit there, carry water bottles, and wear comfortable hiking shoes. Do not litter on the way, and try to keep your voices low to maintain the peace of the holy place.

2. Jabal Thawr

During the first Hijrah from Makkah to Madinah, our beloved Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) and his companion Abu Bakar (RA) took shelter under this cave to escape their pursuers. The first Hijrah was an important event in the Islamic history, marking the beginning of the Islamic calendar, which gives this place a special value.

The climb for the cave is longer and quieter than Jabal Al-Nour, so make sure to visit at sunrise for cooler weather and wide views.

  1. Masjid Aisha

Just outside the Haram boundary, pilgrims enter Masjid Aisha to enter ihram for Umrah. Many families make a stop here to renew their intentions. The facilities provided here are really good, but try to avoid peak prayer rushes.

  1. Jannat Al-Mu’alla Cemetery

This is a resting place for many notable figures in Islam, including the wife of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), our Mother Khadijah (RA). However, the access may be limited due to some reasons, so when you can’t enter, please observe from a distance and make sure to avoid taking photographs and loud talking.

  1. Makkah Royal Clock Tower Museum

Located in the Clock Tower, this museum showcases timekeeping, Islamic heritage, and astronomy. The observation areas provide stunning views of the Haram area. It is advisable to pre-book your tickets and check the opening hours before your visit.

  1. Makkah Museum

This is a beautiful old place turned into a museum featuring historical artifacts and local history. The opening hours may deviate, so make sure to confirm before going.

  1. Mina

Mina is the central of the Hajj rituals, also known as the “City of Tents”. Outside of Hajj season, it is a quiet, calm, and comfortable spot for self-reflection.

  1. Muzdalifah

Muzdalifah is another significant site during Hajj, where pilgrims take rest and gather pebbles for the ritual of throwing stones at “Satan”. It’s a nice place for a short, peaceful stop to think about patience, gratitude, and repentance.

  1. Arafat and Jabal Al-Rahmah

The day of the Arafah took place here, and it is called the “heart” of the Hajj. Many visitors come to pray, make dua and remember the mercy of Allah the Almighty. Make sure to dress modestly, and keep your visits brief, especially in the heat.

10.  Souk Al-Khalil and Local Eateries

This market is located near the Haram, and is good for shopping and enjoying simple and delicious meals. Do not forget to try dates and Zamzam-flavored sweets. Keep receipts of what you buy, and avoid to enter the market during peak hours after prayers.

If you are searching for place to visit Makkah after the Haram, these ten picks balance faith, history, and ease. Each stop adds depth to your journey, without taking you far from your main purpose of worship. May your time in Makkah be safe, peaceful, and full of reward.
